Today’s Ride to Church comes to us from Joanna in Albuquerque. Joanna is one of the first non-Mormon people to send us a ride to church, so props to her (and to Elizabeth!). Joanna writes:
My ride to church is from my home in Albuquerque, NM. I grew up in the Piney Woods of East Texas, so getting used to the desert has taken a while. We live in the northeast corner of Albuquerque, near the mountains, in an area that has developed from nothingness and horse farms. Along the northernmost part of this corner lies Sandia Pueblo reservation land.
My ride goes mostly along a major east-west thoroughfare terminating abruptly at the mountains. There are a surprising number of churches on or just off this road, including the LDS temple. The more scenic/circuitous route home winds amid houses and open land. I also run in this area, pushing 80+ lbs of kids plus jogging stroller, so I definitely appreciate the tranquil scenery.
I have captured pictures of most of the churches on the way up (with a detour to an LDS seminary) and some of the land on the way back. I also have side trips to my two favorite nearby parks, my little green sacred spaces in Albuquerque. The first lies along a nearby arroyo (arroyos are conduits for water and are thus common sites of green spaces here). The second, along a slightly more distant arroyo, has grass AND swings–my favorite little park. We usually have this beautiful little spot all to ourselves. I call this park my little slice of heaven.

Loved the “arroyo” definition :) We moved to NM when I was 10, from Houston. We lived by La Cueva High, and then down to the bosque where hot air balloons come to rest. Thanks for the great memories!
