These images were taken on Bayou Courtableau in St Landry Parish, Louisiana near Port Barre right off 190. It is a town steeped in Louisiana bayou charm where Cajun French meets English to create a language known to the locals and seems unchanged to me since childhood; although, my dad speaks of all the many changes that have shaped it to what I see today. The only way to access many of the camps is by boat, typically a well-worn aluminum fishing boat with no bells and whistles. I went yesterday to meet my dad for the day and enjoy the Annual Rabbit Cook-off.
I love the presence of trees and water in these photographs – the way that their physical necessities draw lines that seem to order the composition of the shot. It feels like the building or the riverbank just aspire to the system that trees and ripples set out so symmetrically.
These photos capture and express that order beautifully. Thanks so much for sharing with us!
