Today’s Ride to Church comes to us from sunny Arizona.
Derall says:
“It is 70 degrees as we walk out into the smiling Arizona sun at 7:45AM this May morning. Two thoughts cross my mind. First, I’m glad it is not July because it would be 97 degrees by now. Second, I really need to find a church that meets later than 8:00. But, today, I’m leaving 10 minutes early to capture a few shots on our walk to church (yes we usually leave the house at 7:55). Today’s trek is to one of the LDS churches on Lindsay Rd in Gilbert, Arizona. I love living in the Phoenix metro area. Most good concerts stop here, you can mt. bike and hike year round (though you might have to wake up at 4:30 in the summer), and NASCAR comes twice a year. What more could you want? A church close to your house? I’ve got that too.”
I love this “ride” (98 steps) to church, Derall. It seems like it would be so convenient to be this close to the church. My sister used to live across the street from the church and agreed that it was convenient, but also said that they had a steady stream of unexpected visitors and people needing anything/everything that they forgot for church or an activity. Have you had that experience?
Which was there first–your house or the church?
Thank you. My ward is about 1 square mile, so nobody really lives far from the building. The only requests I generally get are to park in my driveway for stake conference.
The church was there before my house, but when I moved in I actually had to drive 3 miles to another building.
That would sure be convenient in the hot months–one A/C’ed place to the next in less than 100 steps–no getting into a 150 degree car, etc.
I really liked the picture of the message on the gate. You have a good eye for detail.
I’m with Heather in wondering if ward folks expect you to deliver every time an activity runs out of paper cups or orange kool-aid… or if the YM/YW expect to be able to swim in your pool. If I were in that ward, I WOULD expect it. LOL!
:)
It is nice to be able to run home for a Coke between classes on Sunday. :)
