By the relish apparent in the eyes
of patrons at Bottega’s pearl café,
I expect to see, barely in disguise,
a celebrity alight this bright day
by the gate, perhaps a jaunty chanteuse
beloved for her words purred and amorous.
Turning, I discover who does seduce
this transfixed gaze, who is so glamorous.
Unconcerned, you stroll past table and chair,
the object of their trance uncircumspect.
Such a pity, the blind crowd cannot stare
at your gorgeous, beguiling intellect.
Enchantment dims, their eyes search, comprehend,
brimming with envy, that I am your friend.
